Let's Talk Marketing: Hotels & Resorts

Marketing for Hotels and Resorts

There is no better time than now to invest in your image and craft the perfect visual material to help tell your story to guests, solidifying you and your hotel/resort as the top choice when booking a vacation or getaway.

It may be tempting to rely on stock imagery, but going this route doesn’t help to exemplify your ACTUAL services and accommodations. Your clientele are smart, they can gauge authenticity better than you may be giving them credit for. The most powerful route is to dig deep, find what sets you a part, and demonstrate that with visual content that represents your brand in a meaningful way. Does this feel like a lot of work? That’s where we come in.

Deciding to work with a full service agency or supplier helps to alleviate stress from you and your team, and promises to deliver high quality images and video that can be used for promotional materials for years to come. When a team like ours steps in, we can help you determine key factors that can be utilized in your marketing campaign. This blog will outline some of those factors and help give insight into the process a team like JIVE applies to create powerful marketing assets for their clients.

Brand Identity

First, we must understand and solidify your hotel/resort’s brand identity. Brand identity refers to the unique personality, values, and attributes that your business conveys to guests through its marketing and branding efforts. A strong brand identity is essential for establishing a hotel or resort's reputation and standing out in a competitive market. Brand identity can be communicated through a variety of elements, including the property's name, logo, colours, typography, language, photography and video, messaging, and overall vision and design aesthetic.

A well-crafted brand identity can create an emotional connection with guests, reinforce a property's unique selling points, and build trust and loyalty over time. Consistency in branding across all marketing channels is key to establish a strong brand identity and ensure that guests have a clear and cohesive understanding of what a hotel or resort stands for.

This is why it is so important that your promotional videos and photos represent the accurate messaging. Your clientele want authentic, and real representation of what their stay will look like, include and feel like.

The most friction-free way to get this sorted out is by hiring an experienced company that is open to help you develop and execute your ideas without getting in the way of the message and identity of your brand. We are here to strengthen your message, and support it.

Differentiate your business using high-quality assets

In today's highly competitive market, hotels and resorts need to differentiate themselves to attract guests and remain relevant. One effective way to achieve this is by using high-quality photos and videos in their marketing strategy.

Hotels and resorts can stand out from the competition and appeal to potential guests by showcasing unique features and amenities, highlighting locations and surroundings, showcasing sustainability initiatives, reinforcing brand identity and creating memorable experiences. This isn’t always as easy as it sounds, and one can benefit greatly by enlisting the help of a trusted supplier with expertise in the realm of visual content.

By bringing on this kind of support, you can be sure that your photo and video content will be consistent, of high quality, and will create a narrative that both stays in line with your brand, and elevates it at the same time.

Good ideas can make or break your campaign, this is why working with a professional can be the deal breaker.

Leveraging Social media

Social media has become an indispensable tool for hotels and resorts looking to increase their visibility and attract more guests. With the proliferation of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter, properties have an unprecedented opportunity to showcase their unique features and amenities to a wide audience.

By leveraging social media effectively, hotels and resorts can increase brand awareness, engage with guests, and drive bookings. Good photography, and video especially, are critical components of a successful social media marketing strategy for hotels and resorts.

Alongside professional quality content it is important to have content that is real and relatable, people are also drawn to the real side of things, and having content that represents this is another way to tell your story.

Behind the scenes material and genuine interactions with people visiting your social channels are just the tip of the iceberg to creating last-longing relationships with your current and future guests.

These social media channels provide an excellent opportunity for hotels and resorts to connect with guests, partner with influencers, run targeted ads, and monitor and respond to feedback. By leveraging social media channels effectively and creating high-quality content, hotels, and resorts can increase their online presence, attract more guests, and stay ahead of the competition.

Our amazing experience working with The Marriott Harbourfront

In the world of Hotel and Resort marketing, nothing resonates as powerfully as high-quality visual materials that help communicate the guest experience. Strong image and video components can be used on social platforms, websites, billboards, print ads and internally to help build a strong brand and show new and returning guests what sets you apart from the competition. When The Marriott Harbourfront needed support creating such visual materials, JIVE was elated to jump in with both feet.

Located on Halifax’s beautiful Harbour, The Marriott Harbourfront goes above and beyond, offering; delicious food, spacious rooms, family entertainment, golf simulators, a modern fitness centre a brand new dome dining experience. It is without a doubt one of the best places to stay in the city. With friendly staff and a long list of offerings and services, it wasn’t difficult to find interesting things to showcase and highlight.

Paired with the creative minds at Trampline Branding, and wonderful talent from Full Spectrum Talent, we set out to equip the Marriott Harbourfront with visual content for years to come.

From our approach to collecting high-quality photographs that showcase a hotel's unique features to producing engaging videos that capture the essence of the guest experience, this blog will dive into how we approached the job, and the the final product that followed.

Preparing for the shoot

From the get-go, planning was the name of the game. JIVE has always believed in over-preparing so that when we are on set, we can relax and let the magic happen.

After a couple of location scouts and conversations with the agency and client, we landed on a plan that we all felt would bring their vision for this campaign to light.

This plan then became a shot list. A shot-list is a detailed document listing every individual experience, offering, service and product that needed to be captured. This shot list was then shared with the agency and client to ensure nothing was missed.

Once we understood the scope of the project, we brought on extra hands to help navigate a shoot of this size. Many thanks to Michael Jackson, Kelly Rose, and Catherine Boyd for lending their talents - we couldn’t have done it without you. We also outsourced important equipment from our friends at Equifilm, that would be essential to deliver on the ask.

With team and tech intact, as well as a solidified shot-list, the schedule was created. This allowed for everyone to feel confident in our ability to collect everything needed in the time allotted. Being able to look back onto this schedule is such an important part of ensuring each ask is captured, and reinforces time management creating efficiency and focus.

With a ton of prep work under us - it was time to shoot!

Creative Concept:

Creatively, the main idea was to showcase the Marriott Harbourfront’s new offerings and demonstrate to their new or returning guests how comfortable and enjoyable their stay will be.

From showcasing their newly constructed golf simulator to following a guest as they have a delicious cappuccino at their Balancing Rock Café, we captured video and images that told the story of their guests’ experiences.

This is where the talent from Full Spectrum Talent do what they do best. With great models who understood the ask, we explored all of the Marriott’s key offerings and were able to shoot the authentic and genuine enjoyment of our models.

Final Results

On every job, we always feel excited to share the final results and how these photos and videos are performing once put in front of a huge audience. We’re proud to say that you probably recognize some of the following photos from your feed on Facebook or Instagram.

And we didn’t only produce powerful visuals, but also were able to put together the following video spots for them.

Final Thoughts

It was such a pleasure to work with the Marriott Harbourfront, Trampoline and Full Spectrum Talent on this project, and the results are something we are proud to share.

We had a blast working with the whole crew. From the lighting department to the camera operators, from hotel staff to shoot talent, everyone came ready to collaborate, and the final product reflects that joint mission. Until next time!!
