JIVE PRODUCTIONS TACKLES ALC'S SCRATCH N' WIN CAMPAIGN!

Recently, we were approached by our good friends at Arrival + Departures to help bring to life their vision for a new Atlantic Lottery Scratch N Win Campaign. Our job was to produce stills/prints that would extend the concept of the video component from another aspect of the campaign. We needed to tell the story that Scratch N Win can bring joy and fun to even the most mundane of moments, or even when you just have time to kill.

The overall concept was to create/build a stylized set that would lend itself to three separate scenarios. We needed this set to become a bus stop, an airport, and a home. After much discussion and planning, we set out to paint the back wall of the studio that identifiable ALC blue. After accomplishing this aspect, we moved forward laying 4 sheets of 4 x 8 plywood in the foreground, painted those to match the wall, and there we had it - our ALC set.

We ended up with a blue universe that was roughly 17 feet wide, 10 feet high, with an 8 foot foreground. Creating a clean, simple, minimalist set allowed us to dress each of the scenarios accordingly, moving efficiently through the shoot. We had just enough props to tell the story, but not enough to divert from the primary messaging.

To draw attention to our hero talent, we ensure they were dressed in colours that would pop against the blue, while secondary talent wore more natural colours. The hero talent, scratching their ticket, were directed to be excited and engaged, while the secondary talent were directed to just look natural. This draws the eye to our hero talent, without changing the desired messaging.

This was a big shoot, that took days to prep for, and called on many folks to make possible. We owe a huge thank to the incredible wardrobe stylists, make up artists, talent and art direction that made this all possible, and as successful as it was. Major shout outs to Full Spectrum Talent Agency for the talent they brought in, as well as their professionalism, and to Arrivals + Departures who were incredible to work with - as always.

This was one for the books - We hope you like the finished product.

JIVE PODCAST: "MAKE MY LOGO BIGGER" WITH SPECIAL GUEST JEFF SIMPSON

On this episode of “Make My Logo Bigger” we speak to our close friend, and well-known and respected Art Director, Jeff Simpson. Jeff chats with JIVE about the power of mistakes, what Art Direction really is, and the undeniable affect the recent pandemic has had on the advertising industry. With a dissection of how to make this work meaningful and powerful (for both the audience and the client) this episode serves as a reminder that creatives shouldn’t fear failure, but instead use it to their advantage.

From his early days of admiring and creating the ground-breaking (and at the time, illegal) art form of graffiti, Jeff knew that breaking the rules was something that could result in real artistic magic. It’s this approach to creating that has helped him dream up some incredibly powerful campaigns throughout his career. This rebel with a cause looks to connect and inspire people honestly, through big ideas and the guts to tackle them.

Throughout our chat, one thing is apparent: Jeff is an incredibly talented Art Director. One who isn’t afraid to lean on other professionals to create the best work possible, and one who can recognize that mistakes give more than they take. It’s a refreshing angle from someone so well respected in this realm, and reminds us of why we started in this field ourselves.

JIVE PODCAST: Make My Logo Bigger WITH SPECIAL GUEST SHAWN KING

This episode of Make My Logo Bigger is a special one as we speak to our long time friend, and incredibly talented creative, Shawn King. With years of experience both on the agency and client side, Shawn discusses the pivotal change in perspective that led him back to the advertising industry.

As newly appointed Senior VP & Executive Creative Director at Trampoline, Shawn’s approach to the work is refreshingly simple and laid back: good ideas happen, and when they do you’ll know. This trust in his own eye has undoubtedly been part of the reason for his success in this industry, and to hear it from him directly is powerful. Shawn also discusses the importance of keeping your tank full - whether it be by flexing his creative muscle in other disciplines (like his band) or avoiding overthinking and burnout, his pointers, and his own journey, offer us great exercises for any and all creatives feeling overwhelmed.

Shawn knew long ago that his superpower was his work ethic and the relationships he is able to build with his team, suppliers and clients. We know from our own work with Shawn how important this element of his process is, and to pick his brain on the subject has reinforced these point for all of us here at JIVE. Follow along for great stories of past projects and what it took to get them done. This is an episode you won’t wanna miss!
